Becoming an Apple Teacher Reflection:
This week, I got my first apple teacher badge for working with an iPad. Before reading the iPad Starter Guide, I thought that I was pretty experienced and efficient when it came to apple technology. After reading Chapter 1 and passing my first quiz, I realize how much an iPad can help me as a future educator. Using an iPad in the classroom opens up the door to new and engaging techniques. With a wide variety of apps, the iPad can become a book, movie camera, lab assistant, sketchpad, and more.
The wide variety of apps on the iPad allow teachers to connect students to their content in a fun and engaging way. Using Safari, students can have new information to easily access. Under the Maps app, students can zoom, tilt, and rotate around locations all over the globe. My favorite features of this app are the 3D views and the Flyover Tour. Another great app is the News app which allow you to read the news and customize the topics and stories you would like to read about. With an emphasis on Social Studies, I would be able to use both the Maps and News app for fun activities in my content. These are only a few examples of apps that make using an iPad in a classroom so great, and there are dozens more to work with.
Along with a wide variety of apps, the iPad allows you to connect with students and parents through iMessage, email, and FaceTime. It also can help students manage and organize their school work, or even get extra assistance to things like reading text with the Speak Selection option located in Settings. On top of that, I thought that it was really fun that they suggested using the SloMo and Time Lapse features on the cameras for projects and activities.
As the world of technology grows and expands, it is even more important for current and future educators to grow along with it. I think becoming an Apple Teacher and learning about all of the possibilities technology has to offer is an important step in integrating technology into classrooms.
