Note Card Confessions
The Project:
This week I completed a Note Card Confession, and really enjoyed the finished product. As a future History teacher, I constantly am looking for ways that I will be able to get my students to think like historians. Using Note Card Confessions, I would be able to bring emotions to my classroom and allow students to bring attention to a story that they believe needs to be told.
I chose to do the project over Frank Razzano, who is a 9/11 survivor. I chose to do this because 9/11 is something that a lot of students already know about, but do not have an understanding of how traumatic the day was for our country. I also feel like this is a very widely talked about moment of History, so my students would have lots of questions about it.
To complete this assignment I first completed research over 9/11 and chose to do my story over Razzano. I then researched his story and listened to interviews with him. I found two great websites that I used to complete my my research and decide what information to use. (links to these websites can be found in the Check it Out section) Next I used a storyboard to draft what each notecard would say. When I was finally satisfied, I transferred that information to each notecard. I then used QuickTime Player on my Mac Computer to record. This made it super easy and efficient because I was able to simply use the front camera to record myself. I used a piano cover of Coldplay to make the finished product more emotional and moving. Watch the video above to see my finished product!

My Take Away:
This is definitely something that I would use in my future classroom for many reasons. First being what I have mentioned so many times: it gets students thinking about a different side of History and really allows them to step in to the shoes of the people they are learning about. Second, it is not too challenging, but still requires the students to complete a lot of different tasks. This project requires them to do research, use technology, and practice language skills. On top of this, it is a great hands on activity that allows the students to be active learners. I am really excited we did this project because for my content of Social Studies it is perfect!
